Certified Secretaries are often times involved in diverse conflicts whether commercial in nature, boardroom or workplace related disputes. It is therefore critical for a CS to be equipped with effective mediation skills to solve such disputes. Mediation is an alternative dispute resolution (ADR process where parties resolve their disputes with the assistance of a third party. In comparison to the court processes, mediation is expected to resolve disputes in a faster, cheaper and more amicable way. Article 159 (2) (c) of the Constitution proved that “alternative forms of dispute resolution including reconciliation, mediation, arbitration and traditional dispute resolution mechanisms shall be promoted”

This 40 hour intensive course will involve a highly participatory approach including lectures, discussions, videos, role-plays, and simulation exercises. It is tailored for Certified Secretaries who wish to improve and broaden their professional knowledge, skills, and personal qualities necessary for resolving disputes through mediation. The Course is also a pre-requisite for those who wish to advance in the more specialized areas such as Community Mediation, Commercial/ Civil Mediation, Corporate Governance Mediation, Managerial Mediation, Team Mediation, and Strategic Management of Organizational Conflict.
